How to Layer Like A Pro – Pile Up in this Season’s Trendiest Outerwear!

Snow blizzards and ice storms have turned many of us into cave people. But there’s just no avoiding the days when you have to get up and get dressed to go to work, do some errands, go to school or meet up with some friends. So how do you gear up to prevent yourself from falling prey to one of the most bitter winter seasons to date? Layering, of course!

Pile up and get as much clothes as you can possibly put on without looking like you just bred fur on yourself. Let’s pick up some nifty tricks from these celebrities:

1. Layer a fur vest over your leather jacket.

Rachel Zoe

Fur vests are wonderful alternatives to fur coats, which can be off-putting because of their bulk. You can play with different textures and materials just like what stylist to the stars, Rachel Zoe did in here. She mixed her leather jacket with a luxurious fur vest to give the outfit more character.

2. Inject a bit of preppy layering to your outfit by wearing a collared shirt and putting a sweater or an oversized shirt on top.

Fearne Cotton

Fearne Cotton2

What makes this trick so great is that it gives you infinite styling possibilities. You can wear your sleeveless collared shirts underneath so they won’t go to waste this winter. You can also opt for a thick shirt or a knitted sweater to go on top of it.

And like British presenter Fearne Cotton, layer some more with a trench coat. You can also substitute the coat with a boxy jacket. This look works with any type of bottom – pants, skirt or shorts. Wear thermal tights if you want to go for skirts or shorts.

3. Layer a parka jacket over your chunky sweater.

Cara Delevingne

Parka jackets are versatile and they pretty much work with different tops. You can even make it look more interesting by wearing a printed or a patterned sweater. We like how Cara Delevingne made this casual look so effortless by going for a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of combat boots.

4. Wear your band or graphic-printed shirts with a coat and a vest.

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung2

Inject some playfulness to your attire by wearing your favorite band shirt or graphic-printed top. To keep it winter-friendly, wear a coat over it and finish off with a printed vest. Alexa Chung’s outfit is the perfect example. You can even team it up with a leather skirt. Keep your legs away from frostbite by wearing a pair of tights.

5. Get your printed sweater and wear it with a collared long sleeve shirt.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba2

We can’t get over Jessica Alba’s cute and preppy attire for a meeting. The actress opted for a printed sweater that took care of our winter malaise. She wore it with a contrasting collared shirt. Take the preppy vibe to the next level by wearing pleated skirts. You can opt for any kind of winter shoes but we personally like Jessica’s rain boots.

6. Team up your favorite bomber jacket with a fur vest.

Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo2

Olivia Palermo, LFW s/s 2014 – Matthew Williamson – Arrivals in London on September 15, 2013

Olivia Palermo showed us that bomber jackets and fur vests work. We wouldn’t have dared the look ourselves but with the fashionista’s monochromatic take on it, we are tempted to. As if the unusual pairing isn’t enough, she also wore slitted maxi skirt with it. A pair of boots would replace Olivia’s sandals.

5 Different Leather Skirts and How to Style Them for Winter

Which leather skirt style is your favorite? We don’t discriminate. Whether it’s a chic midi pencil skirt or a full mini skirt, we want in on the fun.

Leather skirts are undoubtedly sterling skirt options for winter. They do their work in giving you a semblance of cold protection and in keeping your outfits stylish. So when you are in doubt, go for leather skirts!

Take a look at these bloggers and get some ideas on how to style the different types of leather skirts:

1. Pencil Skirt

Jill

Jill from The August Diaries

Pencil skirts are actually quite versatile so you won’t have a hard time styling them. But here is a copy-worthy outfit from The August Diaries blogger, Jill. She wore it with a chunky cable-knitted sweater!

Why this works: She balanced out the slim-fitting silhouette of the skirt with a slouchy top that adds more volume. Jill also played with texture by pairing leather with knitwear, giving this an interesting edge.

The pleated leather skirt has a lot of versatility. Not only can you play the part of a preppy girl with it but you can also style it in a modern way. Take a look at Barbora’s outfit. She wore her pleated skirt with a long jacket and a plain shirt. For extremely cold days, mix it up with a pair of tights and ankle boots.

Why this works: A leather jacket might have made this look over-the-top but she only opted for a leather-sleeved jacket. There is a subtle edge to the look that captured the essence of modern styling.

Why this works: Because the wrap skirt is very versatile, it’s easy to wear it with even the chunkiest of tops. The skirt also flattered Lydia’s figure, especially with those tights on.

Jennifer Lopez Sheds 14 Years Off in a Youthful Blush Ensemble

Jennifer Lopez showed up at the taping of American Idol all dressed up in a blush metallic ensemble. The 44-year-old performer showed that age is nothing but a number when she put on a rather youthful look – from the sweet pink hues down to her cute half-ponytail – as she arrived backstage to judge at the Hollywood leg of this season’s American Idol auditions. The gorgeous Latina was later joined by a casually dressed Keith Urban.

Jennifer wore a full mini skirt by Kate Spade, which came in a lovely blush metallic material. She paired it with a blush metallic top, some seriously golden heels, a pair of huge drop earrings, and a nude Cayla clutch by Jimmy Choo (available at Saks). The Dance Again diva showed off her atrociously well-maintained toned legs. That’s J.Lo for you, people.

The Kate Spade Aimee skirt boasts of a lovely metallic fabric that easily takes on a voluminous shape, but tends to wrinkle a bit easily. The skirt has inverted pleats that holds the shape of the skirt, which are tucked cleanly into a waistband. The length falls a few inches above the knee, making it a great piece for mixing youthfulness and sophistication.

The skirt is also available in a gray metallic color at Nordstrom.
